South of the capital Port-au-Prince Haiti was struck by a massive 7.0 magnitude earthquake last Tuesday. Thousands of people are feared dead as devastation continues with expected aftershocks. The described “catastrophe” damage costs can range to billions, including the destruction of the presidential palace, UN Headquarters and other buildings.
Many nations gear up to send help, including US, UK, Venezuela and China. President Barrack Obama sent the US military and civilian emergency teams to an all-out rescue. China sent a plane carrying Chinese search-and-rescue team, medics and aid. More help will be arriving as more nations propel as many workforce as they can to save thousands of casualties.

A team of 15 Pinoy Peacemakers were sent to Haiti by the Philippine Government to take part in rescue efforts towards the earthquake victims.
The quake, which struck about 15km (10 miles) south-west of Port-au-Prince, was quickly followed by two strong aftershocks of 5.9 and 5.5 magnitude. The tremor hit at 1653 (2153 GMT) on Tuesday, the US Geological Survey said. Phone lines to the country failed shortly afterwards. — Source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/
We pray for the safety of our Pinoy peacemakers and success in sustaining Haiti’s recovery from the downfall. Let’s all spare some thoughts and prayers for their country and its people as much as we did for the victims of last year’s floods in the Philippines.
