The inmates of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC), who became a famous YouTube sensation for their “Thriller” dance video, performed a stage tribute for their idol, Michael Jackson.

After being told of Jackson’s death Thursday in Los Angeles, the 1,500 inmates at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center hit the exercise yard, practicing for nine hours Friday night _ and into the wee hours of Saturday morning _ for the show. They took breaks only to eat or when it rained, said professional choreographer Gwendolyn Lador, hired by the prison to teach the inmates the dance.

‘Thriller’ made them famous all over the world. Most of the inmates proclaimed being avid fans of the King of Pop since their childhood. He became inspiration and brought back their self-esteem. They believe that “if not for Michael Jackson they would not have this international recognition”.

Today, Michael Jackson was rushed to the Los Angeles Hospital confirmed as dead on arrival. He died at the young age of 50. His family believes that the King of Pop died of cardiac arrest. However, the cause of his death would not be known until an autopsy was performed, which is scheduled on Friday.

Jackson’s death is a great loss on the music industry. He was one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Millions of fans around the world imitated his famous dance moves, such as the signature “moonwalk” that influenced other aspiring artists as well. Some of his hits included “Thriller”, “Bad”, “Dangerous” and “Billie Jean”.

The legend was a well-known success and with his career but grimly troubled with his personal life.  His bizarre lifestyle started from undergoing plastic surgeries and accused sex scandals. With all due respect, it is better to remember him in the light of being an artist who contibuted much to Pop Music’s success during the 80’s than the latter. His legacy shall be felt upon in the entire world forever.

Though, his personal life has been controversial, it is unkind for people to judge him. We should all just pray for his soul to rest in peace.
